Filing Day in NM for Federal Candidates Showcases Strong Democratic Ticket
Democratic Federal Candidates Submit Petition Signatures from Voters Across New Mexico
Today is Filing Day for federal candidates across New Mexico. Candidates for the offices of U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative are required by state statute to submit nominating petitions and file with the NM Secretary of State’s Office to be eligible for the 2024 partisan primary ballot. New Mexico’s all-blue federal delegation will go unchallenged in the primaries.
Democratic candidates filing today include:
U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich
U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (NM-01)
U.S. Representative Gabe (NM-02)
U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03)
No contested primary elections will be on the 2024 Democratic Primary ballot for the federal-level races. As required by statute, the candidates who file today must also be nominated at the DPNM Pre-Primary Convention.
“New Mexico Democrats are unified and excited to campaign across New Mexico,” said DPNM Chair Jessica Velasquez. “Our Democratic incumbent U.S. Senator and U.S. House Representatives will be unchallenged in the primary- a testament to their amazing work. Our delegation has remained laser-focused on delivering real results for New Mexicans. Their strong record has carried them through the primaries and I am confident that that same energy will carry them through November.”
President Joe Biden has already been nominated for the New Mexico primary ballot at a nominating meeting at the State Supreme Court in December. Other New Mexico Democratic Candidates, including those for state legislative offices, county positions, district attorney, public education commission, and metropolitan court judge, must file at a county clerk’s office on March 12th, 2024.
