Another Failed RPNM SCC Meeting Raises Concerns of Financial Malfeasance from BernCo Republicans

Right-wing social media grifter should pull out of RPNM event and “investigate” their blatant corruption

Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico calls on Republican Party of New Mexico fundraiser keynote speaker, and racist social media grifter Nick Shirley, to “investigate” the Republican Party of New Mexico for fraud and corruption, or drop out of their event.

Last night, the Republican Party of Bernalillo County announced that yet another Republican Party of New Mexico State Central Committee (SCC) meeting to replace their ousted Chair failed to reach quorum, causing the meeting, which was scheduled for July 25th, to be cancelled. This is the third meeting to replace ousted Chair Amy Barela that has failed to reach quorum. RPNM’s SCC meeting was scheduled to take place the same day as their Statesman Dinner fundraiser with “keynote speaker” Nick Shirley, who is known in right-wing circles for making clickbait that appeals to xenophobic fears and racist stereotypes.

Included in the Bernalillo County of New Mexico’s social media post was a troubling accusation against RPNM: charging GOP SCC members for participating in the meeting and then refusing to give Republicans their money back even after the meeting was cancelled. Unlike DPNM, RPNM forces their SCC members to pay them money just to be able to participate in SCC meetings and conventions.

RPNM’s rug-pull scheme is clearly unethical and may even be illegal. The largest county party publicly calling out the state party for financial malfeasance is a disturbing escalation of the accusations of corruption at RPNM, which already includes Executive Director Leticia Munoz appointed herself Treasurer, a disturbing conflict of interest, after Kimberly Skaggs was arrested for killing a bicyclist, fleeing the scene, and attempting to cover up the evidence.

“We demand that before Nick Shirley grovels for dollars at the RPNM’s fundraiser he is headlining for them, he first ‘investigates’ them for fraud and corruption, which is apparently his gimmick. As a social media grifter who purports to expose financial malfeasance, Nick Shirley either needs to hold RPNM accountable or drop out of the event,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Communications Director Daniel Garcia. “Nick Shirley is already widely accused of being a racist and xenophobe; let’s see if he’s also a hypocrite and ignores RPNM’s corruption.”

Shirley has yet to drop out of the RPNM fundraiser despite calls from even Republicans to do so. Time will tell if he turns a blind eye to the very malfeasance he supposedly “investigates.” Even Amy Barela has recently called out RPNM for corruption and infighting. RPNM can’t be taken seriously as a state party if their largest county party is openly accusing them of financial malfeasance and they’re inviting right-wing clickbait posters like Nick Shirley to headline their events, all the while still without a Chair.
