Gregg Hull and David Gallegos must denounce Trump’s assertion to rename New Mexico “New America” NOW

ALBUQUERQUE - Today, President Donald Trump asserted that the State of New Mexico should be named “New America,” insulting millions of New Mexicans and centuries of heritage in the process.

So far, the Republican candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor, Gregg Hull and David Gallegos, have been SILENT, clearly comfortable allowing their dictator-in-chief to run roughshod over New Mexico’s history.

This news also comes on the heels of David Gallegos’ repeated support of parts of New Mexico seceding to join Texas, now echoed by Texas Republicans, further proof that the Republican ticket has no interest in serving the needs or respecting the culture of the people of New Mexico.

“Donald Trump lost his mind a long time ago, but his assertion to rename New Mexico ‘New America’ absolutely takes the cake, and Gregg Hull and David Gallegos must denounce Trump now, or else prove to all New Mexicans that they will do Trump’s bidding if elected,” said New Mexico Democratic Party Spokeswoman Mila Myles. “This whole joke is a distraction from the fact that Trump and Republicans are making life more expensive while Democrats focus on what working families across New Mexico actually need – lower grocery prices, accessible healthcare, and an economy built for them. Media outlets need to ask Gregg Hull and David Gallegos, once and for all, whether they will be a rubber stamp for Trump's worst impulses, or actually stand up for New Mexicans. Our money is on the former.”
