On the Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, DPNM Reminds Voters That Trump Promises to Terminate

Tomorrow Marks 14 Years of the Landmark Democratic Accomplishment

Tomorrow, the Democratic Party of New Mexico will celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. Millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans have relied on the Affordable Care Act for the health care coverage they need for 14 years now. But if Donald Trump gets another term, he will do anything he can to eliminate the Affordable Care Act and New Mexican families' access to critical care.

Almost 54,000 New Mexicans have signed up for coverage under the Affordable Care Act under the 2024 Marketplace Open Enrollment Period. If Trump were successful in repealing the ACA, 300,000 New Mexicans would see higher premiums and 334,000 New Mexican’s health insurance coverage would be at risk.

“During his first term, Trump was one vote away from repealing the ACA. Now, he is promising to “terminate” the ACA again and gut health care for the millions of Americans who rely on it,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Spokesperson Daniel Garcia. “President Biden took on Big Pharma and fights every day to lower health care costs for New Mexicans. New Mexicans know the stakes are quite literally life or death and that the only way to protect our health care is to reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris.”

President Biden was instrumental in passing the ACA, and as president, he bolstered it to lower costs and expand access to health care. President Biden:

  • Took on Big Pharma to lower prescription drug costs and cap insulin at $35 a month for seniors;

  • Lowered premiums, saving millions of Americans $800 per year;

  • Got more Americans covered than under any other president— driving record low uninsurance rates, and a historic 21 million people have enrolled in ACA marketplaces this year;

  • Fought to protect and strengthen Medicare; and

  • Expanded access to mental health care.
