ICYMI: Vasquez Leads Bipartisan Push for Border Fentanyl Crisis Bill

NBC News published a story yesterday about Representative Gabe Vasquez’s new bipartisan bill to reduce the flow of fentanyl at the US-Mexico border. The Stop Fentanyl At The Border Act functions as a companion to the existing bipartisan Senate bill, and is proposed by Rep. Gabe Vasquez, D-N.M. in collaboration with Rep. Eric Sorensen, D-Ill.; and Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Ore.

Nearly 74,000 Americans died in 2022 because of an overdose of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Gabe Vasquez told NBC:

  • “The opioid crisis continues to harm American families. This bill would help put a huge dent in what the cartel is trying to do in moving these drugs into our country.”

  • “It’s a shameful thing that we are seeing in Congress today, despite fentanyl being the largest health care crisis that we are facing. Politics is getting in the way of us finding the solutions to stop these drugs from coming into the country.”
