Where’s Disappearing Dave? Too controversial for the campaign trail, that’s where.

ALBUQUERQUE - Over the last several weeks, the Republican candidate for Lt. Governor of New Mexico, David Gallegos, has been missing in action on the campaign trail, skipping events that advertised his attendance and leaving the gubernatorial nominee, Gregg Hull, to fend for himself.

Gallegos missed a meet-and-greet in Moriarty on August 15, the virtual Community Collaborative Forum Public Health Roundtable on August 20, a meet-and-greet with the Republican Party of Taos County on August 22, and a dinner hosted by the Doña Ana County Republican Party on August 26.

Now, we’re not complaining, to be clear. And it makes sense, given Gallegos’ far-right positions, that Gregg Hull would keep his running mate on the back bench just weeks before voting is set to start. But it also speaks to the type of leaders they would be in New Mexico – out of touch and out of reach.

“From equating reproductive healthcare in New Mexico with the Holocaust, to supporting conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals, to selling off southeast New Mexico counties to Texas, Gallegos’ views are wrong and dangerous, and that’s why Gregg Hull is keeping him off the campaign trail and on the couch instead,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico spokeswoman Mila Myles. “Because when New Mexico voters hear Gallegos speak, they know to run for the hills. We deserve state leaders who will support people, not persecute them. And that means electing Deb Haaland and Stephanie Garcia Richard as the next Governor and Lt. Governor of New Mexico.”
