Saturday, October 15, 2005
Contact: Josh Geise
Albuquerque – Today, John V.
Wertheim, Chairman of the Democratic Party of
New Mexico provided the below statement in
regard to Mr. Damron’s announcement that he
will challenge Governor Bill Richardson in next
year’s gubernatorial election: "Governor Richardson has lead
through action, not talk. Because of Governor
Richardson, income taxes and capital gains
taxes were cut dramatically, contributing to
New Mexico’s strong economy and consistent job
growth, balanced budget and record surplus. The
governor also helped working families by
cutting income taxes and eliminating the tax on
food; helped increase the number of doctors by
cutting taxes on medical services; jumpstarted
a booming film industry by increasing tax
breaks and incentives, resulting in more than
$500 million in film-related revenue; and led
the charge in the recent special session to
provide rebates and home heating relief for
every New Mexican." -30-
