2008 Democratic Party of New Mexico Pre-Primary Nominating Convention
The Pre-Primary Nominating Convention is an event the Democratic Party of New Mexico is required to conduct by state law and has significant consequences for candidates and campaigns, as the results of this Convention will determine who will be on New Mexico’s June 3rd Primary Ballot. The Democratic Party of New Mexico will also consider a platform at the Convention. Adoption of the platform requires 60 percent of a non-secret vote.
Keep in mind that unlike the State Central Committee meeting, there are no proxies allowed for the March 15th Pre-Primary Nominating Convention, so delegates must attend in person. Alternate delegates are selected in lieu of delegates who cannot attend, based on the number of votes they received in the county election. The total number of delegates to be elected at the county level will be 1,511. Added to this number are State Central Committee members who are “automatic” delegates, resulting in a total delegate count of 1,919. more... - Mar 15, 2008
