The Democratic Party of New Mexico will
hold our spring State Central Committee Meeting on
Friday, March 17th from 2:30 p.m. to
5:30 p.m. at Smith Brasher Hall on the TVI
campus, 717 University Blvd SE in
Albuquerque. Registration will begin at
The primary purpose of this meeting will be to conduct regular business and to vote on amendments to our party rules. This meeting will not serve as an opportunity to hear resolutions, as the State Platform and Resolutions Committee will have met on March 4 to craft a platform for consideration by the full Convention on Saturday, March 18.
As you may recall, you received a phone call or email from my staff gauging your opinion on holding the State Central Committee meeting and the Pre-Primary Convention on the same weekend. That question was overwhelmingly approved. I strongly urge you to attend this meeting in person, but proxy voting is allowed. There is no limit to the number of proxies that may be held by any one registered Democrat. We must reach a quorum to conduct business.
State Rule
4-5.
Proxy. Except as otherwise
provided, proxy voting is permitted. A proxy
shall be in writing, signed by the person
giving the proxy and filed with the State Party
Secretary. A proxy shall be valid only when
voted by a registered Democrat of the
same county as the person giving the
proxy.
Please consider the fact that many State
Central Committee members and delegates are
traveling great distances from outlying
areas.
They will be taking time off on Friday
and staying overnight. Towards
this end, I believe members of the State
Central Committee who live in close proximity
to
Again, conventional proxy voting is allowed for State Central Committee meetings (not for the Pre-Primary Convention). Thus, any registered Democrat from your county, including delegates to the Pre-Primary Convention, are eligible to carry your proxy. A proxy form is enclosed for your convenience.
