Tax Help for New Mexicans Conference

In 2005, more than 500 TAX HELP New Mexico volunteers and prepare returns
for 26,338 customers in New Mexico, returning nearly 21-million in fess and interest. The average tax refund was $1600.
Other tax credits available to New Mexicans include the Earned Income Tax Credit (up to $4300), Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit (up to $2100), NM Child Day Care Credit (up to $480 per child), and NM Low Income Comprehensive Tax Rebate (up to $450).

The free tax return preparation service prepares and files tax returns electronically for those whose annual household income is less than $38,000 or who are age 65 or older. According to recent numbers, 70 percent of New Mexicans are eligible for the program, yet only 6.5 percent take advantage of it.
