In observation of Independence Day, Chairman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico Javier M. Gonzales released the following statement: 

 

“While barbecuing and enjoying the fireworks this Fourth of July, please take time to acknowledge the courage and the sacrifice of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence who set into motion the creation of the greatest nation on Earth.  A nation where freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to vote are the rule, not the exception. Our nation is still the beacon on the hill that George Washington envisioned, a place of freedom for all, regardless of sex, race, and class. As a Democrat, I promise to keep working for freedom and equality.

 

“If you are looking for ways to commemorate this Independence Day, most counties are throwing festivals and having parades, so go out and celebrate with your community!

 

“Have a happy and safe Fourth of July!"
