As Martinez's Unethical Mismanagement of Taxpayer Funds Surfaces, She Continues to Campaign on Hypocritical Ethics Platform

Javier M. Gonzales: Martinez is "a typical politician who cannot be trusted"

Albuquerque, NM – Another day and another skeleton in Susana Martinez's closet comes to light – and again it’s New Mexico taxpayers who are picking up the tab. Fresh on the heels of last week's two-part investigation by the Albuquerque Journal into a $60,000 no-bid handout awarded to one of Martinez's top deputies, the Journal exposed yet another Martinez scandal today.  The Journal revealed that Susana Martinez awarded nearly half a million dollars in Wall Street-style bonuses to her deputies and political allies, mostly from federal dollars meant to help combat border crime. Martinez showered her staff with nearly three times more in bonuses and raises than any other D.A.'s office in state.

“With each passing day, Susana Martinez is losing more credibility with the people of New Mexico. She says she’ll secure the border, then we find out she spent federal border security money on Wall Street-style bonuses for her staff.  She says she’ll respect taxpayer dollars, then we find out she gave a political ally a $60,000 no-bid handout. Susana Martinez wants families to think she’ll bring bold change, but the reality is that she’s just a typical politician who cannot be trusted,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Javier Gonzales. “She's clearly not on the side of New Mexico families.”
