DPNM Chairman's Statement on Labor Day

6 September 2010

Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Javier M. Gonzales released the following statement to commemorate Labor Day:

"As we spend time among family and friends this Labor Day, let us take a moment and remember this day has been set aside to recognize the positive influence Organized Labor has in our daily lives.  Since 1894, the United States has set aside September 1 as a day to display the 'Strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations' and in 2010, we continue that tradition.

"I encourage each of you to take part in the celebration of the American Worker in your communities -- whether it is thanking a teacher, a tradesman or a public employee; attending a festival or picnic; or simply recognizing the advances working families have brought to our society through better workplace conditions, stronger advocacy and social responsibility in our communities.

"Fighting for New Mexico families, increased rights and social justice are tenets of Organized Labor and the Democratic Party of New Mexico. I am proud to say New Mexico Unions are our brothers and allies in the mutual goal of creating a better New Mexico for future generations.

"With Labor Day bringing summer to a close, it also marks two months until election day in New Mexico and highlights the continued need for New Mexicans to remain vigilant in the shared fight for Democratic ideals.  I personally encourage you to become engaged in this election and work to ensure our Democratic candidates achieve Victory this November 2."
