Albuquerque, NM - The following is a statement from Javier M. Gonzales, Chairman, DPNM, on Mitt Romney's choice of radical Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as a running mate.
"Tax cuts for the rich, loopholes for huge corporations, the end of Medicare and Social Security, a return to Bush's economic policies, harsh anti-woman ideology - if Mitt Romney wanted a running mate who reflected his values and beliefs, he couldn't have made a better choice. If he wanted to make the right choice for this country, he couldn't be more off-base.
"When Paul Ryan released his radical plan to slash Social Security, end Medicare as we know it, and make radical cuts to education, we knew instantly it would be a disaster for New Mexico. Even Heather Wilson has stayed as far away as possible from the plan that would put thousands of New Mexicans out of work and destroy the American dream for thousands more.
"But now Mitt Romney has doubled down on his pandering to the far-right wing of his own Party by making the Ryan budget, and all that comes with it, his own. The Romney-Ryan plan would bust the budget, put millions in this country out of work, end the dream of middle class access to education, and cut taxes on the wealthiest Americans while putting the burden on the middle class. Those are the kind of policies that created the mess that President Obama has been successfully pulling us out of. Why would we ever go back?
"Backward is the wrong direction for this country and for New Mexico."
