Track the Status of Current Resolutions
Resolutions come from individuals at the precinct level and throughout the County Parties. Submitted proposals are forwarded to the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) State Platform and Resolutions Committee (SPARC) where they are reviewed and amended by the Committee, which consists of volunteers from around the State.
The "Report of the State Platform and Resolutions Committee" is then presented to the membership of the State Central Committee (SCC) and voted on at the semi-annual statewide meetings. These resolutions are the basis of our State Platform.
DPNM Platform and Resolutions Committee Resolution Process Description
Any New Mexico resident who is a registered Democrat may submit a resolution by following the steps listed below:
All resolutions should be submitted on the Resolutions Submission Form to ensure its processing and to allow us to contact you if clarification is needed.
If data, facts or figures are included in the 'Whereas' statements, supporting citations are expected in the addendum. Resolutions without a complete addendum may be tabled.
Before writing your resolution, please check our Platform to make sure it is not redundant.
Compose your resolution using the Sample Resolution as a model, making sure to follow the Resolutions Writing Guidelines. Fill out the form completely. Please submit these documents in electronic format (such as .doc; .pdf; etc.) to the appropriate party officer. If you have difficulty with this step, call your county or State Party office for assistance.
After drafting your resolution, contact your County Chair for guidance on submission procedures in your county. You are encouraged to submit your resolution at local levels first so you can gauge support and refine it. Even if it is not approved on your local level, you may still go forward with it. In all cases, you are encouraged to obtain co-sponsors, especially if you expect your resolution to have a tough time at passage -- in which case, having co-sponsors known to Democrats throughout the State may give your resolution extra weight with those considering it.
Generally, resolutions are passed at the county level and then submitted to the State Platform and Resolutions Committee (SPARC).
All resolutions approved by SPARC will be passed on to the State Central Committee (SCC) for approval.
All resolutions passed by the SCC become planks of the DPNM Platform.
We at SPARC officially discourage last-minute resolutions, unless the resolution addresses an issue which arose after the deadline. See our calendar of events for County and State meeting to ensure timely submissions.
